Driving License Category C
A driving license in category C is commercial driver's license which qualifies drivers to operate straight trucks, buses and combination vehicles. It also permits drivers to operate passenger vans as well as small hazardous materials (HAZMAT) vehicles.

Passenger vehicles
If you plan to drive a passenger car van, truck or a rental moving vehicle such as Uhaul or a Uhaul, you need a class C license. The driver's handbook for each state provides a detailed description of the vehicles that qualify. The CDL 1 (also known by the acronym CDL C + E) is the most comprehensive HGV license you can get. This licence allows you to drive a car with up to a maximum authorized weight of 750kg. It is what the majority of taxi drivers or livery service drivers are granted.
In addition to being capable of operating vehicles with trailers that weigh up to a maximum of 750kg MAM, drivers who have this license are also able to operate HGVs with small size that carry hazardous substances (with the appropriate placard) and other combination vehicles that don't fall into Class A or B. This includes straight trucks and dump trucks equipped with trailers. In the United States drivers with a class C license must undergo additional training to be certified to drive these vehicles.
This license is required by firefighters, emergency/rescue teams, or fire departments. It is not required in all jurisdictions. It is a great idea for young drivers to begin their driving career by obtaining this license as it allows them to gain valuable driving experience and build their skills before they reach the legal age to obtain a full license.
Drivers under the age of 18 must log 40 practice hours and have a learner's permit for six months before they are eligible to apply for an intermediate license. They are not permitted to drive between 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. or unless they are involved in an important occasion at school or work. They also must limit the number of passengers to one non-family member who is under the age of 19 and must only be driven by a licensed driver who supervises them and is over 21 years old. These restrictions will remain in place until the driver turns 18. They may also opt to attend a course in order to obtain the class H or E endorsement.
Hazardous materials
A Class C commercial driver’s license allows drivers the ability to operate vehicles that do not meet the requirements of Class B or A licenses. This license also allows drivers to operate passenger vehicles with 16 or more passengers, including the driver, and vehicles that transport goods classified as hazardous materials (hazmat). Drivers must pass a knowledge test and undergo specialized training in order to gain an endorsement on their CDL.
The H endorsement permits truckers to operate a vehicle to transport hazardous substances in placardable quantities. It only applies when the amount of material being transported is within the limits of the DOT and the material is properly identified and labeled and the cargo and vehicle meet safety standards. Hazardous employees are required to undergo special training to ensure the right precautions are taken while transporting these substances.
In addition to the H endorsement there are other endorsements that can be added to the CDL. The N endorsement allows drivers of tanker vehicles to transport volatile liquids and gases. The driver must pass a test to prove their knowledge of a specific niche in order to earn this endorsement. The T endorsement allows drivers to operate double or triple trailers that require additional skills and knowledge. The X endorsement requires truckers to pass a specific knowledge test in order to operate tanker vehicles that transport explosive substances.
Every motor vehicle containing Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 materials must be attended at all times by the driver or a representative of the motor transporter. This requirement applies to in-state and to interstate transportation, as well as to shipments and vehicles carrying dangerous materials.
Drivers who use their trucks for local delivery aren't qualified for the hazardous endorsement. Drivers must have at least two years of experience in driving to qualify for this endorsement. They must also show good health and a clean driving record and pass a physical test. They must also be able to pass a drug test as well as an identity check. Combination vehicles

Trailers

It is important to know the distinction between these kinds of licences. You can then select the one that is most suitable for your needs.
A non-CDL Class C license allows the driver to operate vehicles not classified as commercial vehicles or that have a gross combined mass rating that is less than 26001 pounds. This may include single-axle and multi-axle trucks, tractors that have trailers, as well as other large vehicles. In some states, this license also permits drivers to operate vehicles that are designed to hold 16 or more passengers.
